Course Description: This course presents an overview of the geography and history of Israel and its place in the ancient Near East from the emergence of Israel in Canaan to the beginning of the Roman period. Students will also be introduced to the major issues relating to historiography.

Course Description: This course uses the book of Amos as a means of introducing the covenantal values that lay beneath Israel’s approach to social justice. Students will be required to visit and report on a Church-related ministry with a social justice orientation. Through this exercise and classroom activities, students will reflect on the Church’s call to social justice and the way in which this can be realised in the lives of individuals and congregations. Additional emphasis will be placed on the content and shape of the book of Amos and the task of interpreting it as Scripture of the Church.

Course Description: This course provides practice reading, analyzing, and translating texts from the Greek New Testament, interpreting them with respect to their socio-cultural contexts, and employing them for preaching and teaching. Prerequisite: Introduction to the New Testament Greek (KNB1513Y) (or, 1 year of Greek) and Understanding the New Testament (KNB 1501).
