Shortly after becoming principal of Knox College in 1908, the Rev. Dr. Alfred Gandier sent letters throughout The Presbyterian Church in Canada — soliciting financial support to build the new college on St. George Street in Toronto. Why did he cast such a wide net? Principal Gandier was confident that: “There are few… in our Presbyterian Church who will not desire to have some part in this important undertaking which, for generations to come, will add to the effectiveness of the Church’s largest Training College for the Christian Ministry.”

Gandier knew that money invested in Knox was money well spent by members of The Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC). Congregations across Canada would benefit from having ministers and leaders receive the education necessary to develop a strong and healthy church “for generations to come.”

In the 100 years since Gandier’s new college opened its doors, Knox has had a profound effect on the PCC and spiritual life in Canada and abroad. Its students are effective, caring, and creative Christian leaders and ministers. Our graduates and professors are leaders in the fields of theology, Bible, practical ministry, and church history.

Now, with the boldness of our founders, we are committed to developing leaders for our multi-faceted, multicultural world. To build on the strengths of Knox College, which so many PCC members helped to construct more than 100 years ago, the college has launched the re:forming Tomorrow campaign. This campaign will ensure that Knox continues to strengthen its role in theological education “for generations to come.”

Re:forming Tomorrow is a comprehensive capital campaign, seeking to raise $15 million to keep Knox at the forefront of theological education. It will transform almost every aspect of Knox College by funding new programs of study, an endowed chair, leadership initiatives, new technologies for teaching and research, and repairs and upgrades to the building. Re:forming Tomorrow also ensures that the building will be a safe, accessible, and familiar “home away from home” for hundreds of students and residents. The college will provide students with rich and rewarding experiences to prepare them for leadership within the Presbyterian Church and society as a whole.

The re:forming Tomorrow campaign enables Knox College to revitalize Christian ministries, rebuild our home, and re-imagine leadership. We look forward, as Gandier did over 100 years ago, to casting a wide net and inviting PCC members across Canada to invest in Knox, knowing that: “There are few… in our Presbyterian Church who will not desire to have some part in this important undertaking” that will rejuvenate Knox, the church, and spiritual life in Canada for a bright and faithful tomorrow.

For surely I know the plans I have for you,
says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
— Jeremiah 29:11
